10 Tips for Your First Mountain Trip
Getting ready for your first mountain adventure? Here's what you need to know before hitting the trail: proper equipment, physical preparation, and safety.
Your first mountain trip is always a special experience that will be remembered for a lifetime. However, to make this adventure safe and comfortable, it is important to prepare properly.
Start with choosing quality footwear — this is the most important part of your equipment. Boots should be comfortable, waterproof and with good traction. Be sure to take a raincoat, even if the weather forecast promises sunshine — in the mountains the weather changes instantly. Don't forget thermal underwear and several layers of clothing so you can regulate your body temperature.
Physical preparation is no less important. Start training 2-3 months before the hike: running, squats, climbing stairs will help prepare muscles and the cardiovascular system. Also be sure to familiarize yourself with the route, take a sleeping pad and enough water. Remember: safety always comes first!
